AMACI – Associazione dei Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani (Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums) brings together 28 of the country’s leading public contemporary art museums across 13 regions: from MAXXI and MACRO in Rome to Castello di Rivoli, from Museo del Novecento in Milan to Mart in Rovereto and Madre in Naples. Founded in 2003, it promotes artistic research and museum policy in Italy and abroad through initiatives such as the Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Day), the Giornate di Studi and the RAAM archive. AMACI commissioned Frakas, in collaboration with TILT, to design its new bilingual website, amaci.org, and to update its visual identity.
Building on a long collaboration with AMACI, which began with the Giornata del Contemporaneo and has continued across other initiatives, Frakas designed a website that brings the association and all its activities together in one place. The site is organised into three main sections: museums, projects and events. The 28 member museums can be explored by region, while more than twenty years of activity are arranged by edition: the Giornate del Contemporaneo from 2005 to today, the Giornate di Studi, the research platform Museo Ventuno and the RAAM archive, which documents the member museums’ public collections from 1966 onwards.
The website is also the gateway to the Giornata del Contemporaneo. Frakas redesigned the registration process: through a private account area and a guided form, museums, galleries, associations and independent spaces can register their events in a few simple steps. The events go straight into the Giornata’s calendar, which the public can browse by city and event type. The new form made its debut with the twenty-second edition, on 10 October 2026.
The website was also an opportunity to rethink AMACI’s visual identity. Without touching the logo, Frakas evolved the existing system, expanding it with a broader, more versatile range of colours and typefaces. The new system makes the association’s communication more consistent, keeps each activity recognisable and gives greater prominence to the images chosen each year to present the Giornata del Contemporaneo.
