A compendium inside the belly of contemporary art institutions
Institutional critique working inside-out: many practices!
Through historical analysis, philosophical inquiry, and contemporary artistic case studies, this book presents models and effects where artists, curators, and cultural operators work from within the very structures they seek to subvert. Drawing inspiration from the Trojan horse metaphor, it examines the efficacy in penetrating and transforming entrenched institutional practices, while exploring the psychological, political and tactical pathways of these interventions. At the heart of the book rest the reflections from those who have navigated this delicate and often risky path, following the imperative of a well-conceived exit strategy to maintain the integrity and impact of critical and cultural intervention.
